Health Anxiety Test

A HelpClinic questionnaire about the fear of having a serious illness: checking your body, searching symptoms online, and relief that fades a few days after a normal result. The questions cover the past 30 days and take about 3 minutes.

Instructions

This questionnaire does not ask whether you are ill, or what symptoms you have. It asks something else: how much room the fear of a serious illness takes up in your head, and what you do to quiet it.

Answer ten questions, thinking about the past 30 days.

Important: if you have a symptom nobody has assessed yet, this test is not a substitute for seeing a doctor and there is no reason to delay it. Health anxiety and real illness do not rule each other out β€” you can have one, the other, or both. This questionnaire is about what happens after an examination finds nothing.

All the tests and self-help tools are in the HelpClinic app.

Source, licence and disclaimer

This is a self-reflection tool built by HelpClinic. It is for information only and does not replace a professional diagnosis. It is not a validated psychometric questionnaire, and the boundaries between score levels are not clinical thresholds. The questions were written from the description of ICD-11 6B23 (hypochondriasis / health anxiety disorder), but the result identifies neither that nor any other disorder.

Nor does this test tell you that you are well. Show a doctor any symptom that has not yet been assessed β€” a high score here is not a reason to skip that. Health anxiety is treated effectively, most often with cognitive behavioural therapy.
