Instructions

Answer 23 questions about your job, how you have felt during the past month, and support from your supervisor and colleagues. Choose the answer that best matches your situation.

Your result is a simple sum, normalized so that a higher score means greater burden. It does not apply the official subscales or Stress Check Program criteria.

Important: This is a personal self-check. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace a legally compliant employer-run stress check in Japan.

Answers stay in your browser until submission. With explicit consent, see your result immediately without an account or email. Saved results link to your browser session, without answers, IP addresses or full browser details. Private access lasts 30 days; daily cleanup deletes expired results from the active database within one day. Analytics needs separate consent; answers, results, email and topics are excluded.

To withdraw storage consent, you can delete the saved result from its result page in the browser where you completed the questionnaire. If that browser session is lost or you open an email link on another device, contact the privacy team for deletion.

Instrument and source information

BJSQ-23 (Brief Job Stress Questionnaire, simplified 23-item version), adapted · Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Japan

HelpClinic adapted and translated the wording of Japan's MHLW 23-item Brief Job Stress Questionnaire and normalized answer scoring under Public Data License 1.0. Our own total and score bands replace the official subscales and combined criteria. This is a HelpClinic adaptation, not a Japanese government publication or Japan's statutory Stress Check.

Published cutoffs do not validate edited questions, translations or added score bands. Use them as informational context. If you are concerned, seek a professional assessment regardless of your score.

This test is for information only and does not replace professional diagnosis or a statutory workplace stress check. It does not apply the official BJSQ-23 subscales and compound criteria. If strain persists or affects your health and functioning, speak with a doctor, psychologist or appropriate occupational health professional.
